Muas, night blogg
Both these books are quite similar in the fact that they both tell stories about the holocaust and the world war II. One of the similarities that both of these books share is the main characters experience what happens to them in the holocaust in there own way. Like Elie in most of the book was kept in a concentration camp trying to survive and so was Vladek in Maus II during the younger years of his life. Although they were similar stories they were told from a different perspective, in Night it was actually happening while being told and Vladek was telling his story or experience of what happened during it to his son in the Maus books. Another similarity is during both of the books the Germans mock and make fun of the Jews. During Night They would laugh and taunt the Jews while they prayed, also they would beat up on them too. One of the Germans asked Vladek if the wound on his hand had healed then he stabbed it again to re-open the cut and make Vladek suffer in Maus II. One more connection of the books is that in Maus there were side stories of what went on in Vladeks story other than just the Holocaust and in Night the story was written strait through without many side stories. Like Before anything bad happened in the 1930s and 1940s vladek explained out his love life and who he married, but during Night it was all mainly about concentration camps and how they survived the Holocaust. I believe that other schools should read both books because it gives different perspectives of what happened to them during the holocaust and world war two. The nice thing is you get a illustrated version during the Maus books, but Night is more of a descriptive story about what happened to the characters. Students would be able to get through these books quick also because Night isnt a long read and the Maus books are all comics.

Restrepo blog
One thing that helped Restrepo bring Fallen Angels to life is the setting they were in, it was pretty similar other than the rice paddies in Veitnam. The firefights between the Americans and enemies also helped me visualize alot better of what the fighting was like. In Restrepo they showed the men's reactions to one of the friends death which really gave me a great example of how they would of reacted in Fallen Angels. When they went to villages to talk with the locals it helped bring out what talking to vietnamese in the book would have been like. When all of the soldiers had to go to rock avalanche to patrol it totally reminded me of all the night patrols Perry and the rest of there sqaud did. The sergeant dies in Fallen Angels and Restrepo died in the movie which were big losses to both of them, So the important death portrayed very similar of what happened in the book. The helicopters were used in Fallen Angels to fight which killed much of the enemies and the helicopters/planes bombed and fired at the enemy in Restrepo. The movie showed how no position in the valley was safe just like even at camp in Vietnam wasnt to safe. It never said how much or really when people smoked or did tabacco but Restrepo illustrated it well since you could see friends passing tins to each other. At the end they were all excited to go back home and get out of the valley like Perry and Peewee got to get out of Nam for there injuries.
What i learned about war from Fallen Angels and the movie Restrepo is that mainly not everyone will survive no matter how much someone thinks they will. I also learned many tearms, like who the Cong's are and what the hooch is. The book gave me a good descriptive story of what war is like while the movie gave me the illustrative version of the book, other than the settings of the two they seem to be very similar kind of stories. I'd recomend to read first before watching, since the text gives you so many more details.

Siddhartha Blog
In the book Siddhartha there are lots of great thoughts which can help throughout your life, I believe that one of the most important thinkings of Siddhartha in the book is that wisdom can not be taught, only knowledge can be shared. "'Are you jesting?' asked Govinda. 'No, I am telling you what I have discorvered. Knowledge can be communicated , but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, be fortified by it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.'"(p. 142) When Siddhartha explains this to Govinda he cant grasp it all at once, but it makes perfect sense that wisdom is found and gained by taking in and learning knowledge overtime. To have wisdom as a man, gaining knowledge that is taught by another is not the only key. "But one cannot love words. Therefore teachings are of no use to me; they have no hardness, no softness, nor colors, no corners, no smell, no taste-they have nothing but words."(p. 146) Siddhartha truly believes that words are a poor way of gaining knowledge and not enough to find peace especially by others trying to teach it. You have to realize yourself over the time to love things that may seem meaningless then this wisdom will come.

macbeth quote assignment
(Act 5, scene 3, line 43) Macbeth: Hang those that talk of fear. This sums up that anyone on Macbeth's side who is scared and shows it will be killed, specifically hung. So if a soldier fighting is caught trying to flee or is caught giving up that is fighting for Macbeth will be hung. This shows manliness because Macbeth doesnt want any babys or wussy on his team, he wants true soldiers that will fight to the end like he is willing to do.
(Act 5, scene 5, line 11) Macbeth: I have almost forgot the taste of fears. This quote is saying that macbeth has forgotten what it feels like to fear something because he has gone into war to try and kill Macduff. This shows he is manly because he doesnt fear anything meaning he will go up and fight anything in his way. He may die or lose the battle but that doesnt mean he wasnt scared or manly for trying.
(Act 5, scene 3, lines 38-39) Macbeth: I'll fight till from my bones my flesh be hacked. He is saying that he will fight and endure the war until its no longer possible for him to fight anymore, until too many bones are broken or just his overall insides are damaged to an amount where he is dead. This explains he is manly because he wont wimp out and run from a fight but he'll go his hardest and if he dies then he will take the death like a champ.
(Act 5, scene 1, lines 38-41) Lady Macbeth: Fie, my lord, fie, a soldier and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? She is saying that the lord is a soldier and is afraid? Also that there is no need to be afraid because no one can lay guilt upon them. Lady Macbeth is showing manliness because she isnt afraid of anything happening to them since there is no reason for them to fear.
(Act 5, scene 7, lines 1-2) Macbeth: They have tied me to a stake. I cannot fly, but, bear-like, I must fight the course. He explains how he cannot escape from where he stands but only to fight to survive, fight like a bear. Knowing that he has to fight Macduff either way makes him decide its not worth running. This shows manliness because Macbeth doesnt think of a plan to flee and run from the enemy but he decides that he suck it up, take it like a man to the best of his abilities and hopefully win.

Recurring theme in the odyssey
In the book the Odyssey i believe a reccuring theme is that if you be patient then your faith will pay off. In book 13 odysseus wakes up in a country he doesnt recognize and athena disguised as a young shepard boy informs him that he is indeed on Ithaca. "Ithaca...Heart racing, Odysseus that great exile filled with joy to hear Athena, daughter of storming Zeus, pronounce that name" (pg. 294, lines 283-285). In this example it shows Odysseus has patients because he was vanished from his home for a long time and finally made it back after having faith that he would one day do it.
In book 16 of this book it shows that if you have patients then your faith will pay off because when Telemachus has finally reached home from sailing to hear word about his father he goes to visit Eumeas first and can not believe his eyes."Straight to the prince he rushed and kissed his face and his shining eyes, both hands, as the tears rolled down his cheeks. As a father, brimming with love, welcomes home his darling only son in a warm embrace-what pain he's borne for him and him alone!"(pg. 339, lines 16-21). This shows that Telemachus has patients because he waited for a long time for his father to return home undead, then he went out and searched since he still had faith. When he came back his father was home, proving his patients and faith payed off.
Lastly, in book 22 the theme recurs when the big battle begins. Odysseus, Telemachus, and loyal servants kill all of the suitors, unloyal maids and servants to rethrone their kingdom that was once theres when Odysseus was though to be dead."Then, once they'd washed their own hands and feet, they went inside again to join Odysseus. Their work was done with now"(pg. 454, lines 505-508). In this quote it helps show that the good guys all have patients to put end to the suitors supposively ruling Odysseus's land because they finally waited for the moment they could kill all the bad guys. It all payed off too because now Ithaca has been restored to what it was before but even better because there's no suitors.

The Odyssey
I believe that Telemachus is a hero based character because of the elements of a hero's journey he has like one of them would be call to adventure. He is the only one on the land that thinks his father, Odysseus is alive but everyone else disagrees with him even the wisest people. This is call to adventure because he wants to find his dad although no one else believes he is alive, but the suitors allow him to take a ship and some men to go out and find him. Another reason that makes Telemachus a hero based character is that he stays loyal to dad and his thoughts. His mind is never changed or persuaded that his dad is dead and Odysseus has no chance of surviving. Its loyal because its always stays the same and focuses on finding his dad and having faith he is still alive.
This far into the book Odyyseus is not a hero because he has not completed any of the elements needed to become a hero based character. Like he has only been on Calypso's island just celebrating and having fun all the time while Calypso falls in love with him although he's a mortal. This is not a deed to become what he soon becomes later on in the book. Also he makes no effort to get off Calypso's island or ever talk about ruling his land and being with penolope again. If he were to do this then that would of maybe a small step of becoming what later on does, a hero.
